Welcome to the Maine Burn Permit System

This online service allows you to request an open burning permit from 9am - Midnight, 7 days a week

Who Can Use this Service?

  • Individuals seeking to conduct open burning of piles or broadcast (area) burns up to 10 acres.
  • As of October 2023, permits are required for all fires greater than 3'x3', regardless of whether they were previously considered "recreational"
  • Some towns allow campfire permits to be issued using this system
  • Some towns allow fireworks permits to be issued using this system

  • Permits are only valid when the daily fire danger rating is low, moderate, high, very high or extreme

Who Cannot Use this Service?

  • Individuals conducting broadcast (area) burns greater than 10 acres
  • Individuals who have been convicted of an Note that campfire permits issued by this system are not campsite reservations - they are permits for fires only

What you will need

  • The physical address where the burn will occur and material being burned.
  • A printed copy of the permit, or the ability to show it on a mobile device.
