Summer Community Dance with BFS!

Saturday July 27, 4pm
Live Outside the Library presents, what we hope will become an annual tradition at the Community Center:  Searsmont Community Dance with Belfast Flying Shoes.  Traditional group dances are taught and called by BFS caller Chris Ricciotti - no experience necessary. The music is lead by The All Comers Band, which could include - You! if you bring along an instrument.

A great way to meet people and share some good-hearted, wholesome exercise together! Feel free to bring a picnic and hang out after the dance too.

Admission is free. Live Outside the Library is made possible by the Onion Foundation, Friends of Searsmont Library, and fundraising by the library's Board of Trustees. This particular event is co-sponsored with Belfast Flying Shoes.

Games will not be timed, unless individuals wish to bring their own clock and agree upon its use.

An effort will be made to match players against opponents of similar experience, but it will be helpful for beginners to start playing against more experienced opponents to help facilitate learning the game.

A tournament structure may be used to schedule games for those interested in “upping the stakes”.

Registration is required.

Please email:  name, age, and experience level *beginner (doesn't really know the rules), **intermediate (knows the rules), ***experienced (has played many games).

Kathy McCutcheon art exhibit

The summer art exhibit at Searsmont Town Library features the work, both paintings and pottery, of the late Kathy McCutcheon.
Born in Waterford, Connecticut with a longtime connection to Midcoast Maine, Kathy's early art was in floral and garden design and she won many awards at garden shows in her home state. She frequently turned her mind and skills to painting, particularly watercolor, and pottery. She taught pottery in her studio and her work in this medium runs the gamut from whimsical to utilitarian to sculptural forms. She also created beaded jewelry, embroidery, quill designs, and other decorative arts.
The works exhibited barely touch upon Kathy's creative expression of texture, color, and design, but they are presented in this retrospective in loving memory by the library's art curator Geri Winslow.
The library is open for viewing: Tuesday 9-5, Thursday 3-7, Friday 1-5, and Saturday 9-1.
