Tax Collector: Kathy Hoey
Available during open office hours
Tax Year is February 1 - January 31
The Tax Collector is responsible for collecting the taxes due to the town. These include property taxes for real estate and business personal property, motor vehicle and boat excise taxes.
The Assessor's Agent is contracted to provide property assessment valuation and tax commitment services in coordination with the elected Assessors. The elected Assessors are the Selectmen.
The property tax due date is set by a vote at Town Meeting, and is usually September 30th. Interest begins accruing on unpaid taxes, at a rate that is also established with a vote at Town Meeting, on the first business day following the due date.
In accordance with State statutes, the names of all taxpayers with unpaid taxes as of the end of the fiscal year (January 31st) will be published in the Town Report.
The following link will take you to the State of Maine Revenue Services web site where you can find information and applications for the various property tax abatement programs: Homestead, Veteran's, Farmland, Open Space, and Tree Growth, for example. These applications should be completed and submitted to the Town Office with any necessary documentation no later than April 1st to be applied to that tax year.
